There comes a time when you must evaluate where you are in life, what your needs are, and where you want to go with the rest of your years.
In the last few months, I've been struggling with something I knew in my heart that I had to do.
Say goodbye to independent consulting.
With the conclusion of my one project that I am working on which will wrap at the end of the month, I am going to move on to other interests. I want to work on my own projects, my own dreams and maybe take on some new hobbies.
Oh I'll keep up hockey for sure, but living alone in DC for much of the time affords me opportunities for growth.
- Spiritual Quests
- Personal Enrichment
And those are just to name a few I can think of. I'll narrow down that list because, lets be honest, you cannot do it all.
Doing independent contract work like I've done for so many years has just burned me out. I no longer find myself motivated to do great things in someone elses mind - when I have so many things that I want to do with my own. I love the people I've worked with and many of them have been great friends, teachers and motivators who have helped me to get where I am in my career. It's just time for me to focus on that career (which is blossoming nicely for the first time in years) and do the things that bring me legitimate joy.
So over the next few months, I'll be migrating these fine folks to other providers, and stepping back to chase my career, my interests and my dreams. From Powertools to ElusiveMind to MichaelBagnall - I'll be forever grateful for those that entrusted me with their projects, their visions, and their ideas to make the web a better place.
But now, it's time for me to pursue my own.
